Kick off your summer fun with three exciting in-person camps at Da Vinci Schools in beautiful El Segundo.
This summer, we are proudly offering Robotics, Graphic Design and L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Determination) Camps at our campus, located at 201 N. Week 1: June 21-24, 2022 (4 days)
Week 2: June 28-July 1, 2022 (4 days)
Schedule for both 4-day weeks:
Robotics Camp | 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (entering grades 4-9)
Graphic Design Camp | 9:00AM to 12:00PM (entering grades 6-9)
L.E.A.D. Camp (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Determination)| 12:30-3:30PM (entering grades 6-9)
COST: $200 per 4-day week/per AM or PM session
ROBOTICS CAMP: Campers will learn basic engineering concepts using LEGO Mindstorms, while designing, building, and programming their robots to complete a challenge based on the 2021-22 FIRST Robotics Challenge. Mentored by students on the World Champion Da Vinci Robotics Team, campers will complete a wide-range of robot objectives based on each student’s skill level and interest!
GRAPHIC DESIGN CAMP: Campers will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop and develop professional graphic design skills! Each day, students will learn how to use a new Photoshop tool or technique in response to a fun or interesting design challenge. At the end of the camp, students will create a final piece that shows off all their skills.
L.E.A.D. CAMP (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Determination): Campers will develop valuable life skills – leadership, communication, teamwork, goal setting, problem-solving and time management to become great students and people through various team-building activities, games, workshops, and more!
Da Vinci Summer Camp 2022 is open to the general public. Morning campers may be dropped off as early as 8:30AM. All campers must be picked up within 15 minutes of camp ending. Lunch supervision is provided for campers participating in both the AM and PM sessions. **Please complete a separate registration for each child.**
COVID Protocols: Please note that Da Vinci Schools actively follows all federal, state and county guidelines related to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, masks will be strongly recommended.
Da Vinci seniors and their families are invited to learn more about how Da Vinci seniors can receive FREE COLLEGE and support in their first year of college and beyond. DVX partners with El Camino College, UCLA Extension and Southern New Hampshire University to bring a supportive and unique college experience that includes career building and exploration as well life skills development, including financial literacy along with earning their college credits and college degrees — an A.A. or Bachelor’s degree all for free.

I hope you’ve all had a terrific spring break! We are excited to begin tomorrow with the “home stretch”, the final 8 weeks of the school year! We have a special schedule on Monday, beginning our day in Advisory, to help students begin these final weeks with focus and intentionality in order to finish the school year well.
There are many exciting events happening in the coming weeks, including:
Camp retreats in Running Springs on 5/2 (10th grade) and 5/3 (9th grade)
Senior Awards Night on Thursday 5/5
Senior Prom on Friday 5/6 (also a PD day)

Many scholars have started applying to the summer opportunities which is exciting! Please note that scholars can receive 5 academic credits for completing 60 hours of service throughout the summer. Once you receive confirmation that the business/organization is willing to host you as an intern or a volunteer, please email me so I can send you the required forms.
The Knowledge House Coding Fellowship information session is today, Tuesday, April 5th at 6 pm. Please email me to register or to request the link to tonight’s recording.

The Hawthorne Police Department is offering the opportunity to intern with their Community Affairs and Forensics Department. The opportunities are listed under the ‘Law’ and ‘Health Sciences’ sections.
The Rooted Friends Project is a non-profit organization in Hawthorne and they are seeking volunteers for Saturday, April 9 to shoot a Public Service Announcement. Volunteers will be featured in videos, and photos, and may be asked to model and act. Parent permission is required for scholars under the age of 18. Please contact Celeste (323) 427-9575.
Thank you to all the DVS parents and guardians who came out to our Exhibition nights this week! We had a terrific time welcoming you back to campus, and are proud of our students for sharing the projects they’ve done and the things they’ve learned!
Next week is a professional development week (a 4-day week for students) and then we are on Spring Break!
When we return from spring break, we have a busy 9 weeks left in the school year!
Also, we are thrilled to be able to bring back the spirit of the “Overnighter” tradition this year with “Camp Retreats” for our 9th and 10th grade students! These will be full-day (but not overnight) retreats at Camp Pondo, with students leaving the Da Vinci campus at 9am and returning at 9pm. The DVS Camp Retreat days are Monday, May 2nd for 10th graders and Tuesday, May 3rd for 9th graders. The retreats will include a wide variety of recreational and team-building games and activities including a zipline, skate park, and more! Details of the retreats will be coming next week, but for now you can mark the dates in your calendar if you have a 9th or 10th grade student!
The DVS Counseling Team did classroom presentations to all junior students on how to calculate their CSU/UC GPA. Below are PowerPoint Slides and the instructional video.
We’re thrilled to be bringing back our Exhibition Night tradition beginning tonight!! DVS Exhibition night is 5:30pm-7:00pm tonight for grades 11 & 12, and tomorrow night for grades 9 & 10! We look forward to welcoming you to campus and giving you an opportunity to see what your students have been doing and learning this year! Our Exhibition Nights will be “open-house” style so you don’t need to arrive right at 5:30pm. Please note that all participants will be required to wear face coverings.
Students are also preparing digital portfolios with samples of the work and projects they have done this year, so parents and guardians who are unable to attend Exhibition Night can still see and celebrate their students’ learning. To prepare, students will have Exhibition/DP prep time next week in place of advisory, office hours, and seminars.
The Knowledge House is seeking high school youth interested in learning code and design skills! The Karim Kharbouch Coding Fellowship (KKCF) is cofounded by Hip Hop Artist French Montana and supports youth interested in STEM. The fellowship is a 12-month program, starting with paid, virtual summer training, followed by monthly career & college access workshops and coaching. Graduates are matched to summer internships and college STEM programs. You must be 16 years old to apply.
The Knowledge House is also seeking candidates for the 2021 Innovation Fellowship, a 12-month program starting in the fall to promote technology-based opportunities in web development, data science, cyber security, and usability design. To be eligible you must earn less than $50,000 a year and possess a high school diploma.
