DVS Back to School Night Reminder

Hello DVS Families! 

Just a reminder that we will have our Da Vinci Science Back to School Night tomorrow, August 11th! 

This will be a time for families to come to campus by grade level to hear pertinent school information, receive student schedules, and to meet and greet teachers and staff members. If students are unable to attend the Welcome Back to School Night, they will receive their schedules the first day of school, August 15th.  

Da Vinci Science’s Welcome Back to School Night will take place outdoors at the West Plaza at the following times: 

9th Grade- 5:00-6:00 (Freshmen Orientation)

10th Grade- 6:00-7:00

11th Grade- 7:00-8:00

12th Grade – 7:00-8:00  (meet & greet teachers on the 2nd floor at 7:00, followed by the presentation in the West Plaza at 7:30 pm) 

See you August 11th at Welcome Back to School Night and/or First Day of School, August 15th!

Hello Da Vinci Scholars and Families,

I hope you are enjoying the last weeks of summer break. Please see the announcements below:

For students interested in receiving academic credit for their internships:
Students who are interested in receiving 5 academic credits for summer internships/volunteer opportunities, must fill out the Unpaid Internship Agreement and submit a timesheet that demonstrates the completion of 60 hours of service. The Agreement must be turned in before the start of the internship/volunteer opportunity. The timesheet is due August 6, 2022. Please email all documents to Ms. Rodriguez at crodriguez@davincischools.org.

For students interested in art, film, and animation:
The El Segundo Public Library encourages all individuals who live, work and/or play in El Segundo to submit artwork for Summertime, Summertime: A Community Juried Art Exhibition! This art show will feature 2-dimensional artwork, including painting, photography, photo collage, photomontage, collage, drawing, printmaking, etc. that celebrates summer. Dreamworks Animation is hosting a Summer Speaker Series from August 8 – August 12 where students will learn about roles in animation, succeeding in the industry, and more. Register here.

For students interested in social change:
The Alliance for Girls is hosting a community-building and healing-oriented event for youth leaders seeking to bring safety to school to address sexual harassment. Alliance for Girls is co-hosting this event with Unity Council to prepare both youth and adult advocates for a new school year prioritizing policies and programs that help sexual assault/harassment survivors. Attendees will also hear from representatives from the Equal Rights Advocate and the Unity Council. The event will be an entirely virtual event and will take place on Saturday, August 6. It is open to all youth and youth champions. $15 Visa Gift cards will be provided to youth 24 and under who RSVP and attend the event. RSVP Here.

For students interested in jobs:
The LA County America’s Job Center will be hosting a Job Fair in South LA, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 1 to 4 pm. To register, please visit this flyer. It is highly suggested to bring several copies of your resume to share with prospective employers!

For students interested in science and engineering:
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program places high school students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for 8 weeks during the summer. SEAP is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in STEM the opportunity to learn about Naval research and technology while receiving first-class mentoring by top scientists and engineers. SEAP is a competitive program with around 300 placements in more than 30 labs around the country. Welcome Back, DVS Families!

Dear DVS Families, 

We are excited to welcome you back to school for the 2022-2023 school year! This will be Season 14 for Da Vinci Science and we are looking forward to working together to make this year a memorable one. We have a talented team of dedicated educators who continue to work hard to create innovative, effective, and real-world learning experiences for our students. We are getting ready and excited to see you soon!

We invite all families to attend our first school event of the school year- “Welcome Back to School Night”, Thursday, August 11th! Summer Greetings, DVS Families!

Summer greetings! We hope all DVS families are safe and enjoying summertime with friends and family. We are very honored and excited to be your principal and assistant principal for the 2022-2023 school year! Grace has loved working with all the DVS families over the past few years and is looking forward to continuing the great work here. Timothy is coming to us with an extreme passion for this work and is committed to supporting all families. He loves film and television, going to restaurants, and sports and music of all kinds so feel free to provide any recommendations!  We look forward to meeting and getting to know each and every DVS family.

We will be holding a casual “DVS Meet & Greet” zoom session next week, on Thursday, July 21st. This will be an informal zoom session designed for new families and/or returning families to get to know DVS a little better, as well as a chance to chat with Grace and Timothy. Much of the information will also be shared in person and outside during Back to School Night on Thursday, August 11th, so do not worry if you cannot attend this zoom session. In addition, here are some helpful upcoming dates:

The STEAM Education Club for Girls is offering three virtual summer camps for female-identifying students to attend. The speakers are industry leaders who work at Honda, Car and Driver, Starbucks, University of Washington CoMotion Lab, Carvana, INDYCAR, Laguna Seca Raceway, USAA, Motivo Engineering, Shell, Navy, Pratt & Whitney and more.

FABcamp: July 6-31
Land+Sea+Air Transportation Camp: July 25-29
Career Dev Camp: August 1-5

Students that are 18 years or older have an opportunity to apply for paid and remote micro-internships through Parker Dewey. To apply, you must sign up for a Career Launcher account. You’ll then be prompted to fill out your profile and then you will be able to apply for our available projects.

Fika Tech Career Academy is accepting applications for a hands-on, 120-hour career development course for 100 students from Los Angeles who will be working with companies including Facebook, Snap Inc. and more.  Students will receive a stipend for their participation. Los Angeles County Free Summer Lunch and Snack Program has begun!

Come join the fun at any of these 47 locations for the free lunch program! Children and youth ages 18 and under receive a free, nutritious lunch and snack that include vegetables, fruits, seeds and healthy dairy products like milk, string cheese and yogurt.

June 13 – August 5 
Monday to Friday
Lunch is served from 12 to 1 p.m.
Snack is served from 3 to 4 p.m.

Meals are available for dine-in only at the enclosed designated areas. Lunch and snack are for youth participants only.

*Please note that there will be no lunch and snack on June 20 and July 4.

Counselor Announcements

Class of 2022:
Your final high school transcript will be sent to the college you reported in Parchment as your final destination college.  Please allow a couple weeks for the college to process your transcript. You may track your transcript via Parchment to ensure that the college of your choice received the document.

Counseling/Academic Questions and Support

If you have any counseling related questions, Ms. Corinne Valle will be available to support all students and families.  Please contact her via email at: cvalle@davincischools.org during her available hours: Monday-Friday 8am-12pm from June 14th- July 1st.

Work Permit:
To obtain a work permit please download the Work Permit Application. Fill out and email the work permit application to Liz Diaz at ediaz@davincischools.org . Please allow 2-3 days for her to process this form and email you the work permit.

Dual Enrollment:

If you would like to take a community college course, please submit your completed dual enrollment form (ex. community college ID#, course name and number, parent signature) to Ms. Valle, cvalle@davincischools.org. Please allow 2-3 business days for her to process this form.
