Black College Summit: Thursday, October 31st

Good afternoon!  A college fair opportunity for students. Details are below:

 

The Black College Summit

Date: This Thursday, October 31st

Time: 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Where: Holman United Methodist Church: 3320 Adams Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90018

Workshops: Scholarships, Campus Culture and What Parents Should Know Before their Child Leaves for College.

 

The Summit will be held on Halloween, but the best treat is Acceptance to College! There will be over 20 Historically Black College and University (HBCUs) Admissions representatives attending from their institutions who will provide vital school information. Some colleges will offer on-site admissions and scholarships. Students should bring five copies of their transcripts and ACT/SAT scores, if applicable.  Please work with your respective grade-level counselor to request transcripts:

All students are welcome, but this Summit is ideal for high school seniors and juniors.

 

 

Riordan Saturday Business Institute is now accepting applications (9th and 10th graders)

Attention freshman and sophomores!  The application for the Riordan Saturday Business Institute is now open.

 

About The Program

The Riordan Saturday Business Institute is a five (5) session program designed to introduce 9th and 10th-grade students attending high school in Los Angeles, to topics in business, careers, and how to prepare for college early. The cost-free program is a great way for students to enrich their learning outside the classroom and engage with like-minded students. All sessions, except one, will be held virtually.   Apply here !!

Application deadline is November 15, 2024

Eligibility

  • Current 9th or 10th-grade student
  • Student must be attending high school in Los Angeles
  • Have a GPA of 2.9 or above
  • Be able to attend orientation and all sessions.

Good morning!  We hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Below are the college reps who will visit DVS this week:

  • Monday, 9/16: UC Davis
  • Tuesday, 9/17: University of Southern California (USC)
  • Wednesday, 9/18: UC Santa Barbara
  • Friday, 9/20: Harvey Mudd University

Presentation will be at lunch time in Mr. Perez’s classroom.  These presentations are open to all DVS students of all grade levels (9th-12th).

Deadline to submit permission slip to the Latino College Expo has been extended!

Good afternoon DVS Junior and Senior Families !

We still have a limited number of spots available to attend the Latino College Expo happening THIS Saturday, September 14th. We have extended the deadline to submit permission slips to Friday, September 13th at noon or until spots are filled.  Since this is a short week, you can turn in permission slips tomorrow, 9/12 to Ms. Marquez or you can email them to her by Friday, 9/13 at noon.

As a reminder, we will depart from 201 N. Douglas promptly at 9:00 am and we expect to arrive back by 2:30 PM. Students must bring their own lunch or bring money to purchase food on campus.
