Join Us for Community Aviation Day – March 23

Prepare for take-off at Da Vinci Schools’ first-ever Community Aviation Day on Saturday, March 23rd.

Bring your friends and family to this free community event focused on the exciting world of aviation, in partnership with Wiseburn USD, Wiseburn Education Foundation, and Giving Kids Wings Flight Academy. Students and families will pilot flight simulators, build easy model airplanes, meet aviation professionals, talk to pilots, and more! Activities recommended for ages 8+.

Announcements from Real World Learning Director (2.29.2024)

The Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department (LA Civil Rights), in collaboration with Communities In Schools of Los Angeles (CISLA) and Picture Motion, will be hosting a panel discussion and private screening of the film The Space Race, which highlights the stories of Black astronauts striving to overcome social injustice. We are thrilled to announce that Da Vinci Schools will be hosting its first-ever Trades Fair! This event is an excellent opportunity for our students to explore various career paths and gain insights into the world of skilled trades.

Date: Thursday, March 28th
Time: 1pm to 5pm (The Trades Fair will be open to parents from 4pm to 5pm)

At the Trades Fair, students will have the chance to interact with schools from different trades, participate in hands-on activities, and learn about the diverse opportunities available in fields such as aviation mechanics, automotive technology, birthwork, construction, cosmetology and make-up artistry, dental hygienist, fire technology, welding, and more.

Announcements From Real World Learning Director (1.19.2024)

Las Fotos Project is hosting a Website Development Workshop on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 11:00am 1:30pm at Las Fotos Project, located at 2210 East Cesar E Chavez Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90033.

Teenage girls and gender-expansive youth who are developing, or beginning to create a website, are welcome to join the workshop. It will be led by the leaders of Monforte Studio, a Queer-Women-Owned-Company brand and design studio. 

This is an intermediate-level workshop, ideal for young creatives looking to build out their creative portfolio website. Youth between the ages of 12 and 24 can participate.

This week, the Real World Learning Team is releasing its Spring and Summer 2024 document with a wide number of opportunities students can engage in.

Some opportunities have fast-approaching deadlines. Join the Cast and Crew of Da Vinci’s First-Ever Musical: The Addams Family

Inviting all Da Vinci high school students to join the cast and crew of Da Vinci’s first-ever musical: The Addams Family!

We will distribute and review all audition materials, as well as chat about production themes, characters, concepts.

Please come dressed to move. Sweats, dance clothes, etc. Dance shoes are not required, however if you have them, you are invited to wear them. Otherwise, please wear some type of tennis shoe you can dance in safely. EVERYONE ATTENDS FOR THE DURATION.

Rivet School with Da Vinci Virtual Info Session Monday, Jan. 22 at 6:30PM

Dear Da Vinci 12th Grade Students and Families,

We would like to invite you to a virtual information session to learn more about our Rivet School with Da Vinci program.

Rivet School is a reimagined college and career pathway program. Our college program is designed around the needs of students and provides both flexibility and structured accountability to support students in meeting their goals.

In partnership with Rivet School, Da Vinci seniors who choose to continue their journey through the Bridge Program will enroll in college at no cost (free!) to the student or their family. Students will participate in a flexible, online accredited degree program with opportunities for in-person meetings and career-connected learning on the Da Vinci Connect High campus.

Please join us to learn more about this program and if it may be a good fit for your student!

Fresh Films is now enrolling for its free weekly filmmaking program with classes starting on January 9th, and every Tuesdays and Thursdays thereafter, in the Long Beach and San Pedro area. The program is open to all teens 13-19 interested in film, content creation, and storytelling. Click here for more information.

First Gen Empowers is a non-profit organization that addresses educational inequity by supporting first-generation, low-income, and undocumented students with college and career-readiness programming. The Empowered Scholars program is a 6-week program where undocumented students receive tailored support and guidance. Applications will open January 8th, 2024 and close January 19th, 2024. Bank of America’s Student Leaders Program
Deadline to apply: January 17, 2024
Through Student Leaders®, Bank of America recognizes high school students who lead and serve in their communities and beyond. They connect Student Leaders to tools and resources to help make communities better. Student Leaders work as paid interns at a local nonprofit for eight weeks, attend the weeklong Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C., develop leadership and career skills, and connect with like-minded students from their community and across the country. Summer High School Intensive in Next-Generation Engineering (SHINE)
Presented by USC Vertibi School of Engineering
Application Deadline: February 16, 2024
At USC Viterbi’s Summer High School Intensive in Next-Generation Engineering (SHINE) students can join a USC Viterbi professor’s research team for seven weeks to discover how engineering addresses our real world problems in various fields including biomedicine, robotics, aerospace and more. Each student works with an assigned professor as well  mentor (Ph.D. student or post-doctoral researcher) dedicated to training that student in experimental lab work or computational research – learning by doing not by studying. Scholarships are available for qualifying students.

Kollab Youth’s Winter 2024 Session
Deadline to apply: Monday, January 22, 2024
Low-income and underserved teens (ages 14 to 19 years old) can apply for Kollab Youth’s Winter 2024 Workforce Development Program beginning February 5th to April 5th. Kollab program helps young people explore career opportunities in business, STEM, and other careers that are high-growth and high-wage jobs. Kollab Youth is a registered Pre-Apprentice Program with the State of California! Youths can receive a certificate from the State of California for completing the program. To learn more, click here.
