Volunteer Opportunity: Girls Empowerment Conference

The LA County Parks and Recreation has invited the young women of DVS to participate in the Girls Empowerment Conference next weekend.

Here are some details:

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2019

Time: 7:00am -3:30pm

Event Location: East LA College

Departure & return will be from Del Aire Park (12601 Isis Ave. Hawthorne, CA). Breakfast, lunch, and transportation provided.

Week 7 Schedule & Due Dates

We’ve had another terrific week at DVS and are looking forward to week 7!

Next week we have college representatives coming to visit us at lunchtime from Santa Monica Colege (Monday), Hawaii Pacific University (Tuesday), and Williams College (Friday). All students and parents are invited to attend these presentations! No RSVP is needed.

In week 8 we will be holding Student-Led Conferences (SLCs), an opportunity for families and students to formally examine and discuss academic progress, is coming up. This is an expected event for all students and parents, and we ask that you sign up for a time that both can attend. As a reminder, student photos are now available for viewing, download and purchase. If you’d like to check out your student’s photo, please visit this link: DVS Student Photos for Purchase.

You can find your student’s photo by clicking on the last name of his/her advisory teacher. After selecting an image, you can pay for the digital download of the image ($21) or printed copies of the image (starting at $10). Don’t Miss This Private Basketball Clinic for DV Students Tomorrow!!


Looking for something to do tomorrow during the PD day when school is not in session?

There is an exciting private Basketball Clinic for Da Vinci students scheduled for tomorrow in connection with the L.A. Street Festival hosted by the LA Times. Don’t miss this opportunity to play some ball with friends and develop your skills. The free clinic is for Da Vinci students in grades 6-12 of all skill levels.

What: Free Private Basketball Clinic for Da Vinci Students in grades 6-12
When: Friday, Sept. 20 from 12:00-2:00 PM (arrive at 11:30 with your permission slip in hand)
Where: On Douglas Street between Imperial Highway and Atwood Way — meet in the white tented area at 11:30

There will be giveaways to make the day extra special. If we obtain 150 student participants, all students will be entered into a raffle for the following prizes:

* Prize 1: Apple AirPods or Samsung Galaxy Buds
* Prize 2: $100 gift card to Amazon, Best Buy or Dick’s Sporting Goods

4th Annual College Inclusion Summit at CSULB

California State University, Long Beach will be hosting their 4th Annual College Inclusion Summit.  The goal of The Summit is to provide prospective students from traditionally disenfranchised and historically underserved communities with information to empower them to apply to college and be successful once they arrive.This is an opportunity to learn more about the majors and programs offered at CSULB as well as receive assistance with completing the CSU application, FAFSA, and college related workshops for students and parents.

We had a terrific 4th week here at DVS, ending with an awesome Club Fair this morning where students had the opportunity to sign up to participate in a student-led club, with over 40 clubs to choose from!
