Finally, for our attendance records, any time a student returns from being out sick, we need the parent to provide an email or note to Brittany Alvarez at balvarez@davincischools.org. Thank you!

Northrop Grumman Internship Opportunity

Dear DVS Families,

This message is intended for 11th and 12th grade students in the Mechanical Engineering Pathway at DVS. If you’re a guardian of one of those students, please talk to them about this terrific opportunity. There is an informational meeting scheduled for Friday, September 6th at 8:30am. Below is a summary of the opportunity:

DVS students in the Mechanical Engineering Pathway have an opportunity to work toward earning a paid summer internship with Northrop Grumman during the summer after their senior year and beyond! In order to do this, 11th and 12th grade students would participate in monthly featured presentations and conference calls after school coordinated and led by Northrop Grumman employees. 12th grade students would also participate in mentoring sessions with Northrop Grumman employees on Friday mornings (8:00am start time). Successful completion of the program would allow 12th grade students to secure a paid summer internship in the summer before college, and successful completion of that internship would enable to student to return for another paid summer internship the following year. This is a great opportunity to get real-world work experience with one of our local partners! Please consider attending the meeting to learn more information. Students are encouraged to come to the meeting with questions!

Students should RSVP for the informational meeting using this link. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Steve Wallis

DVS Principal

School Starts Monday!

We can’t wait to begin “Season 11″ with our students on Monday! I recommend dropping your student off at school between 7:30 and 8:00 to avoid the worst of the traffic (or have them walk or ride to school!). At 8:15 we’ll be gathering the DVS students in the theater to find their advisor, and at 8:30am the students will head up the stairs with their advisory to begin the year! They will get their class schedule in their advisory class that morning.

Here’s a pdf of the week 1 schedule: DVS week 1 schedule Week1

Enjoy the last weekend of summer!

New Seminar Opportunities @ DVS

We are excited to be adding 2 new Tues/Thurs seminars this year – one called “Auto Mechanics” in which DVS students will go to the El Segundo Auto Museum to learn about auto repair as they help their mechanic restore one of their classic cars, and one called “flight school” in which one of our DVS parents who is a private pilot will teach our students the basics of flying using flight simulators. These are open to all students, but there is a limited amount of space in both. Your child can request to be in one of them by emailing me at swallis@davincischools.org!
(New students will submit their seminar requests at the orientation meeting on Monday evening or Tuesday evening).
